This study aims to examine how the affective domain in learning can be developed in postgraduate education, specifically within the discipline of business and management studies. By aligning intended learning outcomes with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this research demonstrates how such alignment can facilitate reflective practice and contribute to the development of the affective domain in learners. Drawing on Krathwohl’s taxonomy of the affective domain, the study highlights an embedded process through which learners can progress towards higher levels of affective development. The research method involved a qualitative analysis of postgraduate curricula, identifying key areas where SDGs can be integrated to enhance the emotional and value-based aspects of learning. Through student feedback, the study explores the impact and challenges associated with this alignment on learners’ attitudes, values, and emotional responses. This approach encourages learners to reflect on their values and attitudes, promoting a holistic development that transcends cognitive skills alone. The findings suggest that the learner undergoes a process of learning, unlearning and re-learning as they engage with the curriculum. The study concludes with recommendations for educators on effectively integrating SDGs to develop the affective domain in postgraduate education.
