Traditionally Higher Education Institutions are not known for their agility. The COVID-19 pandemic changed this with a rapid shift to virtual classrooms with facilitator forced to navigate new ways of teaching in a VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex, ambiguous) world. This lightening talk will discuss the challenges of navigating this new terrain, the different facets of the real-time sensemaking journey, with key takeaways on how to equip students with the skills needed to withstand the challenge of this ‘new normal’ from resilience to critical thinking. It will discuss three core principles: transformative technologies; students as emerging leaders; and dialogic practices.
Cheri is a communication design lecturer specialising in design thinking, strategy and innovation. Recently, Cheri has been a panellist at the Social Enterprise World Forum and asked to present on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging best practices. She holds two master degrees in design and education and is currently completing postgraduate study in behavioural economics to better understand how people make decisions. Cheri is committed to leveraging design, behavioural science and innovation as a force for social good in the world.
