The aim of the study is to understand the role of Frank Street in İzmir during the Ottoman Westernization. Unlike with the previous periods, there was an active public life in Izmir, in particular to Frank Quarter. Ottoman privileges and non-Muslim people such as Levantine, Greek, Armenian and Jewish tradesmen were living in the Western lifestyle not only in their mansions, but also in Frank Street and Pasaport district of Izmir. Whereas Pasaport district was housing, customs, embassies, hotels and clubs, Frank Street was the center of daily trading with tailors, shoemakers, boutiques and cafes. Therefore, the study is scoped into the second half of 19th century and the first quarter of 20th century. Data collection method is photographic documentation such as postcards, photographs and historical maps, especially Charles Goad’s map of 1905. The evaluation method is descriptive analysis with which, it would be possible to learn the number and variety of the retail shops and social spaces along the street so as to illustrate the public life. It also demonstrates how the street served as a vibrant hub, attracting a diverse range of merchants, traders, and entrepreneurs, and contributing to the city’s growth in multi-dimensional aspects. To conclude, the main reason of manufacturers commonly located to the west-end of the street, might be close to the suppliers in the historical center. The reason of social spaces commonly located around the mid of the street might be a secondary street as a shortcut to Pasaport.
