This study adopts a comprehensive approach, combining qualitative analysis and case study methods, to explore the influence of the European Cultural Routes, specifically the European Route of Historic Gardens in Lisbon. Focusing on the interrelation of heritage, preservation, and tourism, this research investigates how Lisbon’s cultural landscape has been shaped by its role in the European Cultural Routes. Through historical documentation and online research method, the study identifies the driving forces, mechanisms, and impacts of these cultural routes on the city’s development and its engagement with European heritage. The research aims to elucidate the significant effects of the European Cultural Routes on Lisbon’s urban heritage, tourism industry, and cultural resources. By analyzing the involvement in the European Route of Historic Gardens, the study aims to highlight how such international collaborations promote the preservation of historical landscapes, foster cultural tourism, and enhance the city’s global reputation as a cultural destination. This research also examines the challenges and opportunities presented by the integration of Lisbon’s heritage into these transnational cultural networks. The scientific significance of this study lies in its ability to contribute to the understanding of the mechanisms by which European cultural routes influence urban identity and heritage preservation. It provides a foundational framework for policymakers and cultural institutions to enhance Lisbon’s positioning in global cultural tourism, offering insights into sustainable heritage management and the promotion of cultural tourism as a key economic driving role.
