Based on the responses of 1,701 families who live in Catalonia (Spain) and have children enrolled in compulsory education, the overall results indicate that 15% of families have suffered closely from some of the types of violence studied (racism, bullying, marginalization due to disability, and gender violence). While they care about globalization and social issues, only 30% adopt proactive attitudes, and more than half prefer their children to avoid conflicts rather than defend just causes. Affection, over safety, is the most consistent value at home, while preferences for family stability versus financial stability and happiness versus academic success are split in half. Parents believe that they must set the rules, and only half defend that adults and children must take responsibility and collaborate at housework. The number of families who describe communication at home as unsatisfactory is also close to half, highlighting many deficits in this regard, such as spending more time listening to music, playing video games and watching series than talking, or disrespecting each other, shouting and getting aggressive when arguing. More than half of families declare that when solving a conflict with their children, they end up imposing the rules, and those who believe that dialogue is an effective way to face disagreements do not reach the third part. Three quarters advise their sons and daughters to negotiate or give in when they have a problem and, to a lesser extent, to avoid it; both collaboration and the use of physical force are approved by half.
