The basis of the study is the city as a space of (over)concentration of social relations and interactions. Given that cultural heritage is not static, unchanging, existing outside of time, but bears the marks of historical times and socio-cultural and political regimes, it is a field of interaction and negotiation of the interests of different social groups. The research presents a methodology on the principle of case studies for researching and analyzing the memory for the emblematic buildings and places of architectural history through the eyes of young audiences to derive a micro-model (for a capital European city – Sofia) and reach the recognition of the role and the local community’s interest, as well as awareness of the potential of educational programs for the formation of cultural regional and national identity and the formation of “heritage communities” as a prerequisite for improving the living environment. The multi-layered analysis of the city’s cultural heritage is refracted diachronically and in synchrony and with a high sensitivity to the contemporary development of societies, the interaction with the urban environment, and especially to the needs and attitudes of the youth public about cultural values and the living environment.
