This paper describes the work undertaken at the Polytechnic of Tomar (IPT) as part of a R&D project on the work of a renowned Portuguese architect, Raul Lino da Silva (1879-1974). This architect designed more than 600 architectural projects built across the whole of the Portuguese territory.
The work was carried out by a multidisciplinary team, with a view to disseminating an important architectural heritage, through resources with reduced environmental impact. The process involved the areas of Architecture, Civil Engineering, Design and Computer Engineering and included undergraduate and master’s degree students. The first phase included the survey, research and analysis of a set of architectural structures designed by Raul Lino between 1919 and 1933, having identified 20 buildings. In order to disseminate his architectural collection in the city of Abrantes and simultaneously minimise the consumption of material resources and the production of waste, collaboration was established with the Master’s Degree in Editorial Design and the Undergraduate Degree in Computer Engineering, in order to enable the production of an application for mobile devices. This application is intended for the cultural tourism sector, allowing the visitor to identify and locate the buildings on the route and access various information about them, e.g., year of the project, main formal characteristics of the buildings, or materials and construction systems applied, as well as some biographical notes on the architect.
