The Republic of Indonesia, with 1.340 tribes, is enriched with hundreds of traditional structures. Like other vernacular structures, they all evolved through the eras, and it is impossible to have strict guidelines or general measurements. With modernization, Indonesian people -slowly but surely- are walking away from their culture, including its traditional building. This paper discusses cases where traditional Indonesian houses are on the edge of extinction and what the stakeholders have done to prevent it. The data was gathered from literature studies. It also revealed that most traditional structure and construction knowledge is mainly stored not in the written form but as an oral heritage in the construction workers’ memory. As technology advances, the number of construction workers in traditional construction areas also decreases yearly. With this condition, those hundreds of traditional houses’ structures are also a big challenge for Indonesian stakeholders. They need to work on a system to preserve both the tangible houses and its intangible construction knowledge and skill. It is an extensive homework for the Indonesian government and other stakeholders that practice in the preservation area.
