Within the research of the PhD in Fine Arts, which seeks the symbiotic interaction between a heritage collection and the space where it is located; we propose to present the research of the case study on the cast sculpture collection of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon. This research was elaborated according to three thematic groups: the historical and material investigation of the space and collection; the dimensional and photographic survey of the space and collection; and the use of the BIM methodology for the heritage research. Resorting to BIMs methodology, we created an accurate generative and parametric model able to represent the space\collection material, and geometric characteristics, whilst analysing the environment parameters caused by the material, and constructive characteristics of the space. The parametric model of objects\components capacity to store and compute historical, material, geometric and position, was also used through interoperability platforms, to survey and study the interaction between the cast sculptures with the space environment. Finally, by adopting the BIM workflow and managing capacities, we were able to study the capability to create interactive virtual 3D models, enabling hypothetical scenarios, and simulations to process and interpret data and produce Preventive Conservation plans adapted to each specific case, considering the architectural space and its contents.
Miguel Matos Gomes: Born in Lisbon, graduated in Architecture in 1995 at Universidade Lusiada and in Sciences of Art and Heritage in 2019 at FBAUL. He worked as a project and construction manager, and surveyor of heritage buildings. Currently, he is a PhD student at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon.
Alice Nogueira Alves is a Conservator Restorer. Since the beginning of her academic training, issues related to the history and theory of restoration and the way different cultures see the artistic object gained fundamental importance in her academic interests, which culminated in the completion of a PhD in Art History, Cultural Heritage and Theory of Restoration, at the School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon, in 2009. Currently, she is a Guest Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon.
