For decades, Brazil has been implementing housing programs with a formal discourse to solve the social housing deficit problem of the poorest strata of the population. The architectural project is one of the fundamental elements of this process, prompting constant monitoring. Having social housing as a theme and the architectural project as a primary interest, I present here some considerations that aim to: reflect on the understanding of the technical design in the architectural project by the people who will be served by the housing programs; to present the experience of participatory design of the mutual help Serra Azul, in Maracanaú – Brazil; highlight some details of the architectural project resulting from this experience, suggest a physical model as a facilitating instrument in the decision-making by the community regarding their housing and highlight the potential use of parametric modeling in the production of social housing.
