Learning to identify claims, premises and conclusions is fundamental to the process of reasoning. With the aid of digital tools and a service provider, I created a simulation where students played the role of a rookie detective and tried to solve a case. In the debrief, the case becomes the context for identifying the process of reasoning and provides an indication of the student’s level of critical analysis. Feedback from first and fourth year undergraduates said the simulation was engaging, inclusive and challenging. I will demonstrate how the simulation works and explain the relatively pain-free process of developing your own simulation for teaching.
