As traditional approaches to heritage conservation and education strive to engage a broader audience, the integration of storytelling through comics emerges as a potent tool for redefining public interaction with historical sites. This paper proposes a novel approach to heritage preservation at Maritime Greenwich by creating site-specific comic book stories that explore the rich histories of its key buildings and landmarks, such as the Royal Naval College and the Old Royal Observatory. Drawing from a background in art and storytelling, this research will outline a project that develops a series of historically accurate, narrative-driven comics. Each story will be meticulously researched, ensuring historical fidelity while employing the artistic and narrative flexibility of the comic format to enhance educational engagement and emotional connection. The methodology will include archival research, collaborations with historians and conservationists, and a creative process that involves both scriptwriting and artistic illustration. The aim is to demonstrate how these comics can serve as educational tools that highlight the significance of heritage conservation, making the past accessible and compelling to modern audiences, including younger demographics traditionally less engaged with such efforts. The project also anticipates partnerships with local schools and digital platforms for widespread distribution, maximizing impact and fostering community involvement in heritage preservation. This paper will argue that storytelling through comics not only supports the conservation of physical sites but also ensures the preservation of their stories and cultural values, enriching public understanding and appreciation of heritage in an innovative format. Through this project, we seek to establish a model that could be adapted to other heritage sites worldwide, showcasing the universal potential of comics in heritage education and conservation.
