Abstract

The Taipei Metro, a transportation system with five main lines, symbolizes the city’s progression. Since the first line was launched in 1997, it has become an indispensable mobile infrastructure for the entire Greater Taipei metropolitan area. This is the first time that Taiwan built its own metro system. And it’s a way to prove Taiwan ‘s technology and engineer level tofrom other countries. Taiwan is able to build its own metro system like advanced countries and also it built its national confidence. New technologies and regulations have also changed Taipei passenger’s habits. The ban on eating, drinking and queuing gradually made everyone behave themselves as part of the progressive system. The image of cleanness and order created by the rules governing passenger behavior, regular checks by staff and the work of cleaners has become a model for Taiwan’s next transport facilities. The obvious example is in the “restrooms”. Combined with the Taipei City Government’s policy to the quality of public restrooms around the 2000s, the Taipei Metro restrooms have become the most effective demonstration sites. The pursuit of cleanness is further amplified by the threat caused by viruses, which could be seen most clearly during the COVID pandemic. During the pandemic, the Taipei Metro system serving the entire metropolitan area, once was the most convenient transportation, became the facility fulling with risk and fear to infection. In addition to wearing masks, which is the most basic requirement during the epidemic, cleaners actively disinfected all areas that passengers frequently touched. Infrared thermal imaging cameras were set up at station gates and monitored by staff to prevent passengers with fever from traveling. By deploying technology and the adjusting of manpower, Taipei Metro removed the invisible viruses from the metro system. Also ,Taipei Metro hope to remove the fear of infection from passenger’s minds and restore the original order.
