The Royal Parks, in partnership with the National Lottery Heritage Fund ‘Parks for People’ programme are delivering a four-year project at Greenwich Park which began in 2021, with an investment of £12 million into Greenwich Park to reveal, restore, protect, and share its unique heritage – now, and for future generations which forms part of the Maritime Greenwich World Heritage Site. Telling the story of the 590-year-old park through improved access, engagement and educational opportunities as well as restoring and uncovering lost historical features. To improve access and facilities, including cafes, the Learning and volunteer provision and the deer park, as well as enhancing and protecting the parks biodiversity. Future proof the unique landscape heritage, creating new ways making full use of the park to ‘tell the story’, training, apprenticeships and volunteering opportunities to re- establish the park in its rightful place at the heart of the community for all to enjoy. Project Vision: • Major restoration of the 17th century landscape • Enhanced grasslands and richer habitats • New area of public realm for community events • Contemporary Learning Centre will widen access to education, upskilling and volunteering. • Refined interpretation and better facilities will encourage park-wide exploration • Once-in-a-generation opportunity to help to preserve this outstanding park for the future. Conclusion: • The community values Greenwich Park as part of their heritage. • Restoration and enhancement of the designed landscape and existing buildings to celebrate the Parks heritage and better accommodate the needs of contemporary users with improved facilities in the setting of the World Heritage Site.
