Issues of local and national identity are becoming increasingly important at the political, cultural and economic levels in different countries. The results of years of globalisation are also visible in public spaces. In an environment of open labour markets and free movement, cities have become commodities and local identities can become brands. Based on the analysis of the conditions of local identity formation, it seems possible to apply methods of creating the effect of immersion in video game worlds to overcome the negative impact of globalisation on the urban environment. Emphasis will be placed on how methods of creating virtual video game worlds can enhance the attractiveness of public spaces through greater attention to the cultural context of the surrounding environment, the introduction of opportunities to interact with the environment, sound design and beta testing. The uniqueness of the city and its public spaces is an important landmark in the evolution of the urban environment. To be competitive, sustainable and safe, public spaces must not only adapt to new socio-economic realities, but also maintain established historical and cultural connections. These steps are crucial to minimise the negative impact of globalisation on the urban environment.
