In 2023, the Melbourne School of Design journal titled Inflection celebrated the publication of its 10th volume. It is a student-edited journal, which serves as as a pedagogical vehicle for advanced students for a subject that examines the relationship between architecture and media, specifically, how architecture performs as a type of media, as well as how it is formed and informed by media. In the 20th century, print media, especially the proliferation of architecture and design journals, not only created the discourse for the discipline where debates on formal aesthetics and cultural and social issues were at play; journals were also the means by which architects were inspired, spread their own theories of architectural design, and even created their designs based on how they would ultimately be exhibited on the pages of magazines. This course, Architecture and Media, delves into this relationship, and presents the creation of a journal to students who are interested in creating their only annual volume, based on a theme of their choosing. The selected theme is a topic which students think best represents this current zeigest, and serves as a means to demonstrate how editing a themed journal can be an intellectual project, where the editors call for papers as well as solicit articles from professionals and academics in the field. This articles examines the teaching of this interdisciplinary subject, Architecture and Media, alongside the administration and development of the student journal which is a part of this subject.
