Abstract

Understanding policy consequences for cities is crucial in the urban context, particularly in an era focused on developing solutions for grand challenges such as climate change. Climate change adaptation and smart cities have emerged as significant areas of study within the sustainability domain, highlighting the need to explore their synergies for both research and practical applications. This paper systematically reviews the intersection of smart city applications and urban climate change adaptation, employing a systematic literature review. The study identifies key benefits that arise from integrating smart city initiatives with climate adaptation strategies. The findings contribute to the development of indicators for smart city studies in climate adaptation and offer successful examples for governments and stakeholders to identify immediate, impactful actions. These successful cases highlight the potential for public-private partnerships to develop strategic approaches that maximize the benefits of smart city applications in climate adaptation. The study underscores the feasibility and advantages of an integrated approach to smart cities and climate action, encouraging city managers and policymakers to adopt holistic, forward-thinking strategies
