This article continues the presentation “Cultural Heritage Transformation Over Time” from July 2024 (AMPS: Urban Futures – Cultural Pasts, Barcelona) and examines current developments in heritage preservation in Golm, once a village and now a district of Potsdam. Golm has become a hub of modern science and education. The focus is on integrating cultural heritage – including historic buildings and traditional structures – into new facilities like a university and research institutions. The transformation process highlights how tradition and innovation can coexist and enrich one another. Special attention is given to preserving heritage within contemporary societal and scientific contexts. The article addresses challenges such as protecting historic landmarks amidst urban expansion, balancing tradition and progress, and actively involving the local population. Participatory approaches are central to strengthening community identification with its heritage. Furthermore, the study explores how cultural heritage can serve as a bridge between past and future, fostering social cohesion in a globalized world. It offers practical insights for sustainable development strategies that utilize cultural heritage as a resource for education, science, and social integration. The presentation provides inspiration for other rural areas facing similar transformations, emphasizing the role of small communities as models for linking historical heritage with forward-looking innovation.
