This study reports on the findings of the study undertaken with the student teachers from a university in the Free State province about their perceptions in relation to the utilization of e-Portfolios during teaching practicum. The study followed quantitative design and methodology. A sample of 150 out of 640 student teachers doing B.Ed. fourth year were randomly selected and asked to complete the questionnaire about their perceptions in relation to the utilization of e-Portfolios. Descriptive data analysis was conducted by means of collecting data and capturing the information on the computer. The tables were used to describe the data collected. Findings of the study revealed that the utilization of e-Portfolios is productive. In the discussion, the suggestions were advanced that e-Portfolios must be part of assessment during teaching practicum. Furthermore, training must be conducted to assist students about the compilation of the e-Portfolios.
The author is a lecturer at the Central University of Technology, Free State in South Africa. He is working in the Department of Educational and Professional Studies. He is lecturing Microteaching module of the first, second- and third-year students. He is a member of WIL and Skills Development committee and also a coordinator of Teaching Practice. He is responsible for ensuring that teaching practice is run smoothly and providing support to the student teachers in order to proceed efficiently with their teaching practice which is one of the core requirements of their B.Ed. qualification.
