Abstract
Historically, the advent of insurgency and banditry has greatly affected the life of residents of Zamfara state, especially villagers. The presence of banditry and cattle rustling has greatly affected social, political and economic activities around Zamfara area. The state before the advent these insurgents is one of the most peaceful and economically vibrant state in Nigeria. The activities of these bandits and cattle rustlers have negatively affected the people of Zamfara state. It is noteworthy that acts of insurgent using sophisticated weapons, such as AK 47AK 49, and other local made weapons. Killing, kidnapping armed robbery, cattle rustling and looting become the major threat to the people of Zamfara state. This paper intends to analyze social and political forces that instigated the conflict in Zamfara. The paper would also looks at how the previous government and now present government towards curtailing and ameliorating insurgency and banditry in Zamfara state.
