Efforts to promote sustainable and inclusive urban environments have gained significant momentum, particularly in encouraging walking as an eco-friendly means of transportation. This growing focus on conscious urban planning addresses the pressing need for more sustainable and people-centered cities. In this context, it becomes crucial to recognize the importance of integrating gender considerations and addressing the needs of marginalized groups, especially those primarily responsible for care activities, predominantly women. To better understand the dynamics of care-related urban activities, this research conducts a comprehensive analysis of the density and diversity of care-related places around public transport stops. Specifically, the case study involves examining areas surrounding stations of the main light-rail train line in Alicante, Spain. By adopting a thorough diagnostic method that establishes a clear link between theoretical principles and practical implementation, incorporating innovative sources of information like Google Places, the research aims to shed light on the potential real-world implications of gender-sensitive urban planning strategies. The ultimate goal of this study is to empower urban planners and policymakers with valuable insights derived from an in-depth analysis of the gathered data. By informing and prioritizing actions that encourage walking and multimodal transportation, cities can create fair and accessible transport systems that cater to the diverse needs of their inhabitants. The findings of this research are expected to contribute significantly to the advancement of gender-inclusive urban planning practices, fostering equitable mobility options and promoting sustainable, healthier, and thriving urban environments that benefit all members of society.
