This article delves into two case studies examining urban transformation and public safety in Rotterdam (The Netherlands) and Bergen (Norway). Commencing in September 2022, Inholland University of Applied Sciences (The Netherlands), Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (Norway), and the University of Porto (Portugal) initiated an Erasmus+ sponsored Blended Intensive Programme (BIP). The primary objective of this program is to identify challenges pertaining to urban planning and public safety, conduct a thorough analysis of these challenges, and formulate directions towards creative and feasible solutions. The program comprises teaching staff and students from the three participating universities. The research methodology employed in both case studies included on-site observation, visual analysis, and statistical data. The results derived from both case studies are centred on a set of recommendations towards creative and feasible solutions for enhancing safety in the studied areas. Additionally, students were introduced to the concept of global citizenship, fostering their comprehension of professionalism, societal responsibilities, and the intercultural, international, and global dimensions inherent in their future profession.
