The Sustainability & Resilience strand of this conference is interested in teaching and learning set within the broad categories of sustainability and resilience. It explores these practices as both subjects of academic research in their own right and as integrated goals in contemporary teaching and learning. It welcomes contributions on the embedding of SDGs in the curriculum, papers on sustainable modes of teaching and learning for educators and students, examinations of dedicated sustainability programs internationally, the integration of sustainability into disciplinary teaching practices and projects, and more.
The conference itself forms part of the Focus on Pedagogy series. It examines the future of education across disciplines in an era of unprecedent change: The incorporation of sustainability and resilience into our teaching. A worldwide pandemic that distanced the educator from the learner. The emergence of AI. The continued diversification of the student body. The decolonization of the curriculum, and much more.
Reflecting on this scenario via a hybrid conference that is both virtual and based in the historic city of Madrid, we draw on an educational history that is deep-rooted: the city is home to the Royal Spanish Academy, the internationally renowned Instituto Cervantes, some of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Europe and major online universities operating internationally. With this in mind, the conference is interested in exploring critical perspectives on the future of education in specific disciplines and across disciplinary boundaries, but is equally interested in understanding their individual pasts and maintaining what is strong and functions well in the way we teach today.
Themes include but are not limited to:
Case studies of teaching the environmental sciences, innovative pedagogies in addressing resilience in the built environment, and the alignment of STEM curricula with SDG’s. It is also interested in perspectives on sustainability related avoiding burnout in students and educators, or ensuring the long term sustainability of community facing teaching models, and much more.
Other themes:
Teaching & Learning | Methods, modes of practice and innovations in both how we address health and wellness in how we teach and what we research.
Art & Design | Best practices in art and health research for wellness and mental health in patients, students and teachers.
Humanities & Social Sciences | Examinations of innovative education and research in diverse fields that interlink with public health: sociology, geography, psychology and more.
Built Environments | Presentations on Covid-19, design for life, sick building syndrome, care in the community, healthy cities, sanitation and public health, and more.
Science & Technology | Considerations of how technologies like AI can support health and wellbeing – from wellness apps to innovative health research and practice.
